Kenneth was retired laborer from General Motors Company. He enjoyed using his mechanical skills to help out single parents who were in need. He was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL. He was active member of Knights of Columbus Council #1028. Kenneth was a past member of the Belleville Jaycees. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his beloved grandchildren.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Margaret, nee Leinicke, Shields, and brother Richard Shields

Surviving is his loving wife of 49 years, Belva, nee Gale. Kenneth and Belva would have celebrated their 50th anniversary in January 2013. Also surviving is children: Natalie Shields, Norman (Tracy) Shields, Ken (Christina) Shields, and Donovan Shields; grandchildren, Kendra and Blake Billhartz, Lucas and Sydney Shields, Arty and AJ Berreman, Jacob and Jennifer Shields, and Taylor Shields; brothers and sister, Patrick (Ann) Shields, Hopkinsville, KY, James (Sharon) Shields, Chester, IL; Lois Shields, Belleville, IL; Thomas (Linda) Shields, Rockwood, IL; Michael (Kathy) Shields, Belleville, IL; and sister in law, Phyllis Shields; and beloved dog, Baxter.

Visitation will be held at the Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois

on Monday, August 6, 2012 from 4:00-8:00pm and again from 9:00-10:00am St Mary’s Catholic Church, Belleville, Illinois

Christian Mass: will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Belleville, IL Tuesday, August 7, 2012 with the Father Bill McGhee officiating.

Interment will be held in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery, Murphysboro, IL.
