

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mattie (Campbell) Taylor, Sr., infant son, Patrick, sister, Miriam Harmon, brother, Willie Taylor, Sr.
Lawrence is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Shirley (Hubbard) Taylor of Belleville, Illinois, children, Lawrence E. Taylor of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lance (Audra) Taylor of San Antonio, Texas, and Shannon Taylor of East St. Louis, Illinois. Siblings, Edgar (Patricia)Taylor, George Taylor, Robert (Sherry) Taylor and Charles Taylor, and grandchildren, Raven Smith, Lauren Taylor, Lawrence W.E. Taylor, Makenzie Taylor, and Myles Taylor, great-grand-child Cassiel Taylor, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Lawrence served his country valiantly in the United States Air Force. He went on to earn his (Masters of Arts in History in 1971 and Masters of Science in Education Administration in 1975 from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He was the former Teacher/Associate Principal in 1976 eventually becoming the first African American Head Principal at Cahokia High School from 1984-1999. During his career at Cahokia Larry was also the first Black head coach for wrestling, track and field, football and Athletic Director. After retiring in 1999, Lawrence accepted a position as Director of the East St. Louis Community College Center until retiring in 2010. He had a vast knowledge and passion for many subjects particularly history and sports and loved the mountains of Colorado almost as much as his family. Larry gave his heart to the Lord and was a faithful member of Life Church in Swansea, IL for over 30 years serving in many aspects including Chairman of the Board until his passing.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 26th, 2021 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois. Masks are required to attend visitation.
Funeral will be private on Wednesday, October 27th, 2021.
Burial with military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
