Leroy Elmer Schmidt

Leroy was a member of the First Christian Church, Belleville, Illinois, The American Legion Post 58 Freedom Farm. Leroy retired after many years of service as a Butcher for Weyhaupt Bros, meat company in Belleville, Illinois. He was a Korean War United States Army Veteran.

Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Leosha , nee Haas, Schmidt; siblings, Eugene Schmidt, Barbara (Al) Weideman, and Don Schmidt; brother in Law, Robert Fritz.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife who he married on October 28, 1950 Joy, nee Barger, Schmidt; children, Gwen (Kim) Polansky of St. Charles, Missouri, Christine (Mel) Niemeyer of Sparta, Illinois, Teresa Hubert of Aurburn, Illinois, Joe (Nancy) Schmidt of Kewanee, Illinois, Janice Eleopoulus, of Belleville, Illinois, Bonnie (Bud) Colston of Belleville, Illinois; 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; sister, Lois Fritz of Belleville, Illinois, Sister in Laws, Betty Schmidt and Jean Schmidt also, survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives, family and friends.

Memorials in Leroy’s honor may be made to the First Christian Church, Belleville, Illinois or to Heartland Hospice.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the First Christian Church, 5929 Old St. Louis Road, Belleville, Illinois from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and again on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 10:00 am until service time.

Funeral services will be held at the church on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 11:00 am. with Pastor Doug Hargrave officiating.

Interment will follow services in the Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Illinois
