Lydia was a paralegal and obtained her associates degree from Southwestern Illinois College. She worked many types of jobs, including the St. Clair County County Courthouse in the eighties and Southwestern Illinois College. Most recently, she was a paraprofessional for the Grant and Illini Schools in Fairview Heights, Illinois. She enjoyed holiday decorating, especially for Halloween and Christmas. She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening, growing tomatoes and peppers. She knew the names of many flowers and would tell you with enthusiasm. She loved music, dancing and had a silly sense of humor. She was the best dressed mom at any event. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George L. and Rose Marie, nee Nicoloff, Hankammer.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Megan (Topher Coburn) McCarron, of Belleville, Illinois, Morgan McCarron, of Belleville, Illinois, Chelsea (Corey) Fleming, of Marissa, Illinois and Jesse Funk of Belleville, Illinois; her grandchildren, Sullivan Coburn, Savanna Alvarez, and Cora Fleming; her dogs, Mason, Piper, Peanut, and Moe, and many other friends and relatives who will remember her fondly.
Memorials are Appreciated to the Belleville Humane Society. Condolences may also be expressed online at www.valhallagardensandfuneralhome.com.
Due to the restrictions on social gatherings and events in the Greater St. Louis Area, all services for Lydia Funk are pending, until further notice. We hope to gather on a warm summer evening and celebrate her life in a way she would approve of and would want to be a part of. Please plan on joining us at that time. Lydia's children would like to give a special thank you to her work family for their generosity and to Valhalla-Gaerdner-Holten Funeral Home for their patience and kindness helping us navigate the rocky terrain of fresh grief.
