Sammy was born November 8, 1935 in Greenville, IL to Charles Dewitt and Vivian Mildred (Stone) Peterson.
Sammy was a jack-of-all-trades, working as a skilled mason throughout his life. He also owned and operated Grand Marias Golf Course, and most recently worked in program sales at Fairmont Park Racetrack. He truly loved those he worked with over the years. He loved basketball, whether that was following high school and college teams or shooting baskets, well into his 80s.
He will be dearly missed by all who considered him a friend.
A visitation for Sammy will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 from 4:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.
A funeral service will be held Wednesda,y March 5, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Final interment will take place at Valhalla Gardens of Memory.
Memorial condolences may be given in Sammy’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
