

Stephen retired from the City of Belleville, Waste Water Treatment Plant. He was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, Illinois and the St. Clair County Anglers. Stephen ‘s faith was very important to him throughout his life. He never met a stranger; he was always willing to lend a hand to help. Stephen was an avid fisherman; he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
Stephen was welcomed into heaven by his parents, Walter and Angeline, nee Scafidi, Schaefer; sister, Lisa Mefford and best friend, Clif Metze.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Vicki Schaefer, nee Cresson; children, Stephanie (Nicholas) Berry, and Scott (Heather) Schaefer; grandchildren, Silas, Quentin, and Isaac Schaefer; siblings, Tom (Connie) Schaefer, Tony (Jill) Schaefer, Walter Schaefer Jr., Mark Schaefer, and Angie (Chris) Smallwood; his loving four legged companion, Jack. Also, survived by many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Memorial Gathering will be held from 9 to 11 am at St. Augustine Canterbury Catholic Church, 1910 W. Belle Street, Belleville, Illinois on Saturday, May 7, 2016
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church on Saturday, May 7, 2016 with Monsignor William McGhee officiating.
