

Steve was born August 5, 1950 in St. Charles, MO to Robert and Dorothy (Kopp) Hackmann. He married Valery (Maples) Burns on February 16, 2012 in Jamaica. She survives and resides in Arkansas.
Also surviving are his children, Brian Hackmann (Brook Davis) of Elberta, AL, Christopher Hackmann of Freeburg, IL and Jennifer Hackmann of Conway, AR; stepsons, Jeremiah Burns of Potosi, MO and Joshua (Kelsey) Burns of Farmington, MO; grandchildren, Baylor Hackmann, Mysheal Burns, Kaleb Burns, Keith Burns, Emily Dale, Faith Davis, Mary Davis, and Aydenn Dale; and two brothers, Jim (Becky) Hackmann of St. Charles, MO, Mark (JoEllen) Hackmann of O’Fallon, IL; his two beloved dogs, Brody and Savi; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Hackmann; first wife, Sherry Hackmann; and granddaughter, Angel Burns.
Steve started his long career in the sand and gravel business working alongside his Grandpa Kopp at West Lake Quarry in St. Louis, MO. He then founded Big River Sand and Gravel in Cedar Hill MO. He relocated in 1998 to North Little Rock, AR where he worked as a plant manager for North Little Rock Materials. Steve was a founding owner and operator of Ozark Premium Sand in Newport, AR, which was acquired by Select Sand America Inc., where he proudly worked and retired from.
Beyond retirement, Steve was able to enjoy life to the fullest. He and Valery spent the last three years traveling across the nation, visiting and enjoying many stops along the way. He loved sports, cooking delicious meals, fishing and hunting.
Steve was an avid sports fan. Whether it be watching them on TV or being at the games, there was no sport Steve didn’t follow and enjoy. He specifically loved the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues and the Fighting Illini.
Steve will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his friendly presence and his love for his family. Above all else, he cherished his time with his family and friends dearly. He will truly be missed and never forgotten.
Steve's family strongly requests that special memories and stories of Steve be shared to [email protected], for a memorial keepsake book that they will create and cherish for years to come.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025 from 4:00 P.M.- 5:00 P.M. at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.
A memorial service will be held following the visitation, at 5:00 P.M. Cremation rites have been accorded.
