A.G. Wooten entered the Gates of Heaven Saturday October 4, 2014. He was born November 19, 1924 the sixth child of Howard L. and Johnnie C. Morris Wooten in Lovelady , Texas. He was with his eleven brothers and sisters on the family farm. He joined the U.S. Navy at 17, shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December, 1941.
He served in the South Pacific Theater during World War II, stationed in Pearl Harbor and serving on 4 ships. A.G. was Honorably Discharged in 1945.
Six of his siblings had fallen in love with the Pacific Northwest. A.G. joined them in Seattle in 1947. He sent for Doris Vonner, a long time neighbor and girlfriend, and they were married in 1949.
A.G. accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior early in life, and joined First A.M.E. Church shortly after he moved to Seattle. A.G. remained a member until his passing.
A.G. was an avid sportsman and loved to go hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends. He would hunt rabbits, pheasants, deer, elk, moose, and would shoot anything he could eat.
A.G. retired from government when Fort Lawton closed, but continued to work two jobs. One of his jobs was for Greyline Tours as a bus driver. His friendliness, outgoing personality, and knowledge of the region made him a favorite of his passengers and was frequently requested as driver on special charters. After he retired, he spent his time working in his garden. He shared his vegetable harvests with friends and neighbors and locals food banks.
A.G. was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sister Howard, Morris, Octavius, Hayes, and Robbie Marie Trigg.
A.G. is survived by his daughter Sonia Wooten-Gill and son Anton Wooten; Granddaughters Paulita Withers-Wooten and Tomara Lucrisia; Grandsons Anthony Wooten and Adrian Weaver; Great Grandsons Steven, Mason, Jabari, Malik, Tyson, and Jamal. He is also survived by 6 siblings W. Verleeta Benton, Princella May, Maye De Martin(Satoria), Lawerence Beall(Floyd), Burtis Cecil(Willa), and Holloway Wooten (Sylvia). Uncle “G.” also leaves many nieces, nephews, and close family friends to mourn his passing. They will greatly miss his smiles, laughter, wisdom, and love.
