Tom and Anna Keenan were a lovely neighborhood couple that lived up the street. I always admired Anna's staunch cheerfulness and firm determination to face life straight on with zest and verve.  Their children, Scott, Ian and Patty were also wonderful additions to the neighborhood and Patty was a good, sweet friend of my daughter Erica's.  I extend love and blessings to all of them.

"Patti's mom". That's how I knew Anna Keenan and looking back, I am blessed to have known her. 

Patti and I spent a lot of time together in our childhood years and her mom was always so kind, thoughtful and generous.

My deepest sympathies to the entire family. May she rest in peace.

Your Mom was a happy part of my childhood and, to this day, my daughter sleeps with a comforter that your Mom made for me over 30 years ago.  Sending gratitude for her life and sympathy for your loss.  Love, Paula

Although I never knew Mrs. Keenan personally, I know her daughter, Patti.  I'm so thankful to have such an amazing woman in my life and I thank her mother for raising such a strong, kind, caring, and compassionate woman.  Your family is in my heart during this hard time.  Many blessings to you all during this time of healing.

A Brief History of Ann (Anna) Keenan


Born March 13, 1932 in Clydebank, Scotland, a small industrial (mostly ship building) town outside the major city of Glasgow, Scotland.

Parents  - Patrick and Ann (McCafferty) Brennan (both deceased).

2 sisters – Mary (deceased) and Cathie (currently living in Longview, Washington).

4 brothers – Jonny (deceased), Pat (deceased), Jim (deceased), Harry (currently living in Toronto, Canada).

Very active child and young adult.  Loved to dance, play tennis and field hockey.  All Star Winger in Field Hockey in High School.

In 1941, during World War II, Ann and her family survived the Blitz; the many airborne bombings of the Germans on Britain.

She met her future husband, Tommy, in the engineering office at Singer in Clydebank in 1952.  Two years later they were married.

That same year, 1954, they left Scotland for Canada in search for better opportunities.  They resided in Toronto for 3 years.  Anna got pregnant with her first child shortly before they once again packed up for the promise of an even better opportunity in the United States.

Anna and Tommy moved to the Seattle, Washington area in 1957 where Tom went to work for the Boeing Company.  They were barely settled when their first born son, Scott, decided to come 6 weeks early.  Their second son, Ian, was born in 1959.  Followed by that special little girl, Patricia (Patti) in 1962.

Anna, being from a large family, became homesick being so far away from family.  With two young boys and pregnant with Patti, she returned home to Scotland with Tom's blessing.  They had agreed that he would stay here for 6 months and if she wanted to stay in Scotland he would sell the house and move back.  While Tom was getting ready to put the house on the market, Anna realized that there were many more opportunities in America for her family than in Scotland at the time.  She and the boys returned to Seattle.  A special savings account was set up for Anna and her Mom to visit yearly between Seattle and Scotland.

Anna and her family spent the kid's school years in the Lake Hills area of Bellevue, Washington.  She was a fulltime mother, volunteered at the kid's schools and when the kids were older, she went to work at Sears.

In retirement Anna and Tommy moved to a smaller home in Everett, Washington.  They also enjoyed many years wintering in Mesa, Arizona with friends.

In 1994 they welcomed a “long awaited” grandchild.  Well actually 4!  Patti  (Dale) had triplets; Patrick (died at birth), Cassidy and Christopher.  Scott (Kim) had Hayley.  Patti's kids were very premature and Nana and Grandpa spent the entire first year of the kid's lives in Nevada helping Patti and Dale with these little miracle babies.  In 1996, they were again rewarded with their 5th grandchild when Alex was born to Scott and Kim.  Oh how they loved to read to and play games with their grandkids.  More recently, she took great joy in welcoming Nicole and Ryan to her family when Ian and Kathy married.

In 2006, her husband of 52 years, Tommy, preceded her into heaven.

She continued to maintain the house in Everett.  She spent time in her garden, something she got from her Father, and spent time with neighbors and friends.  Her joy though was time spent with her family and especially her grandchildren.  She participated in holidays, special events and family vacations.  A favorite time was spending one on one time with each of her grandchildren just talking.

Anna passed away the morning of Saturday, May 31, 2014 at her home in Everett.  She had finished her morning routine when she laid down to rest and that is when God called her home.  She is with those family and friends who had preceded her and is watching down on her family.  Always the attentive Mother and Nana.
