Barbara Molyneaux McCormick died November 11, 2018. She was born July 21, 1929, in Detroit, MI. As she liked to put it, she was on her way to 90. She was a Tri Delt who rooted for her alma mater, the University of Michigan, all her life.
Starting in the 60’s, as a rare woman in the computer science field, she worked at Boeing, SeaFirst and The Seattle Times. Barbara met most of her close friends during her 40+ years in Sweet Adelines, relationships that lasted throughout her lifetime.
Her travels took her to Japan, Laos, Machu Pichu, Cambodia, Thailand, Europe, Australia, Mexico and many other places, but one of her favorite travel destinations was Yachats, Oregon, where she spent many summer vacations on the beach with her family. She loved her cabin at Granite Falls where she hosted parties for family and friends. Camping, daily walks, and watching Rachel Maddow with her nightly wine and peanuts were some of her favorite activities.
She was a steadfast Democrat and a staunch liberal, believing in equal rights for women, LBGTQ recognition, economic equality, and civil rights.
Barbara was a strong, independent woman, a great friend to many, and the matriarch of her family, and she will be greatly missed. Barbara is survived by her partner of more than 50 years Sandy Shaw; children Viki, Michael, Gayle, and Kit; grandchildren Daniel, Ajna, Seamus, Lucas, Ian, and Sean; and great-grandson Gage.
A celebration will be held at the Sammamish Forest Manors Clubhouse on Saturday, November 24, at 1pm with a program at 2pm. Memorial donations may be made to FINCA Int’l, Southern Poverty Law Center, KCTS 9, Amnesty Int’l, or the Young Singers Foundation.
