Charlene A. Martin was born on September 8, 1917 in Pilot Grove Township, Iowa and passed away on November 26, 2014. She was a resident of Overlake Terrace in Redmond and had great friends there. Her parents were Ira Bishop and Grace Fate, and she was one of six children. Her family lived on a farm near Red Oak, Iowa. She earned a BS in Home Economics from Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa) and a MS in Nutrition from University of Wisconsin in 1949. She moved to Seattle in the early 1950’s and taught at the University of Washington, then at Eckstein Middle School. She loved to hike and explore the mountains and beaches of the Northwest. She married James Martin at St. James Cathedral on August 10, 1959 who passed away July 11, 2008. They have two sons, Aaron and Randy Martin. She and her husband lived for many years in the Lake Hills area of Bellevue and loved to spend time at their vacation home on Whidbey Island. Charlene enjoyed singing, and she was an avid Seattle sports fan while also rooting for her Iowa and Wisconsin alma maters. A memorial service will be on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 12:00pm, Sunset Hills Memorial Park 1215 145th Place SE, Bellevue.
