(continued)... Glad to have known Charles Liekweg . From our days at St. Francis Xavier in S.E. D.C., i remember Charles as the GREATEST COMEPETITOR in my youth--a tremendously focused person whom I was  fortunate to know. Never knew what happened to him after St. Francis except I remember that I understood that he ended up at Priory but, form the obit, apparently he went to Gonzaga but I don't remember him  being there with me in my years there. 

Wish I had of been able to keep track of Charles but somehow those types of childhood relationships seem to just fade away into the memory bucket.  Anyway, when I saw his obit I was saddened of course but will never forget the the times and the guy who was an unknowing part of my life. 

Never knew about the large Liekweg family as Charles as I were, unfortunately, only competitors and I wasn't in the social and sports clique that he was definitely a part of at St. Francis.

I did notice that he, as of 2020, had a sister named Mary living in Kensington, Md. Small world. I spent 35 years teaching mathematics at Einstein High School in Kensington before retiring in 2003 and my daughter married a Gonzaga graduate  in St. Aloysius church circa 2015. 

Memories are important.  Sad to find out that Charles has departed from us but I know that a guy like him left wonderful impressions wherever he went and left fond memories with everyone he touched.

For sure, I remembered that Charles had the longest middle name that I had ever heard  !!

We have good memories of Charlie through the years.  Cheering on and traveling with Kimi, Kristen and the Northwest Ariels gymnastic team, enjoying shows and dinners.  A highlight of 2019 was a  Mediterranean cruise with Charlie and Rayna.

Thank you, Charlie for the wonderful memories of time together.  May you rest in peace.

Charlie was a rare and unique individual who was able to achieve professional success, enjoy outside interests, yet keep his family foremost in his mind and actions. I have so many fond memories of Charlie and I watching our boys grow up playing football and baseball together, and coaching 4 years of PeeWee football together: he took the D, I took the O.  What a labor of love.  I'll always remember the somewhat bemused smile Charlie had when he worked with the less skilled.  Always supportive and encouraging, teaching, trying to get them to be the best they could be.  He showed all his players (and coaches!) how to work hard to achieve an objective. Have fun! Treat everyone with dignity and respect. Good life lessons.  

Rayna: Charlie left us too soon, but we'll never forget his quiet dignity and love for his family. My heart goes out to you, Joey, Kimi, and Steve as you mourn his passing. 

I was fortunate to get to know Charlie in the last 4 years. I retired from working in the insurance industry and he would share his experience working at AAA. He loved to share with me statistical information and I enjoyed our conversations. He was a gentle kind man and loved his family very much. I'm so glad I got to met him in this world and know him for a short time. Will miss you Charlie.

Charlie will be missed by many who knew him, especially me who enjoyed our deep political discussions.  Others talked sports with Charlie at breakfast, but Charlie and I had great political discussions particularly in this fraught time.  He often referred to his Wash. DC experience and his contacts with the WaPo through his sister.  I am glad to have known Charlie and that we considered each other friends.  He will be warmly remembered.  Ted Watts

Thank you Liekweg family for sharing Charlie with all of us at AAA Washington.   I am honored to have worked with him.

The years Charlie spent as AAA WA CEO, I was the AAA Fleet Mgr.  I remember Charlie's smile and caring attitude toward all the road-service technicians.  He often would just drop by and talk for an hour about the business and ask about peoples family.  He truly cared how everyone was doing and it showed.  He will be missed.

Miss you already Charlie, thanks for the wonderfully irreverent conversations and insghts into an amazing array of topics. My students are all better for hearing the book of Charlie.

I knew Charlie from St Francis Xavier and Gonzaga and Southeast DC.  I am saddened by his passing.  Have not seen Charlie since 50th reunion and my memory of him then was that he looked unchanged from high school days.  I just wanted Charlie's family to know that he is remembered fondly by all who knew him.  I hope it is comforting to know that Charlie impacted the lives of many that they have never heard about. Nate just told me about Charlie's passing.  I'm so sorry to hear this.  Charlie was one of a kind, and I always enjoyed our engagements.  Our paths first crossed  in little league where Nate was lucky enough to have Charlie as coach.  Charlie was always supportive and positive and helped Nate build the strong foundation of life he now has.   We got together over the years and had spirited conversations about politics, education, transportation and whatever the hot topic of the moment was.  Fortunately I was usually in agreement with Charlie because his knowledge was deep and impecable, and I surely would have lost the debate!  I also enjoyed his passion for sports and discussions there.  Charlie will be missed by many.

(This is my second attempt at writing something-- not sure if my first one made it in).
I first worked with Charlie at GTE and he was the most considerate, ethical, down-to-earth executive I ever worked with. Our friendship continued post-GTE over occasional coffees, phone calls or lunches, with lots of stimulating, hilarious conversations. What impressed me the most was his love of his family, whom he spoke of always with pride and caring. He adored Rayna and his children! His loss is a tremendous one. He will be missed greatly.
