Charles (Charlie) Liekweg passed away peacefully on November 3, 2020, surrounded by his family, after a courageous four year battle with cancer. He was born on February 1, 1940 in Washington D.C. to Rita and Charles (Buck) Liekweg. He attended Gonzaga College High School and went on to proudly serve in the Marine Corps before attending Catholic University. Charlie graduated with a degree in Economics and embarked on a career in Marketing, Sales and Executive Management. After many successful years of working for large and small companies, he pursued his dream of starting his own business and was a co-founder and CEO of a software training company. When it was sold, he joined AAA Washington, where he served as President and CEO until his retirement in 2011.
Charlie had many interests and passions. He was a voracious reader who loved history, sports and politics, but his greatest passion was his family. He was a devoted husband and father, and loved coaching his sons in baseball and football. Although he did not coach his daughter, he never missed any of her soccer games or gymnastics meets. He served on several Boards, including LeMay Car Museum and Edge Foundation.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rayna, children Steve, Kimi and Joey, and sister, Mary Liekweg Tyson of Kensington, MD. A private service will be held on December 28, 2021 in Honolulu . In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club, in memory of Charlie Liekweg, either online at https://positiveplace.org/donate/ or by mailing a check to:
