

Chester Cleary Stencil, Jr., “Chet,” a respected Real Estate Salesman, and long-time resident of Bellevue, passed away in his sleep, peacefully in God’s arms on February 10, 2021, at the age of 95, from heart disease. He lived a full and successful life. He lived with his family in Bellevue for over 52 years, before recently retiring in Kirkland. Chet was born in Seattle, on April 18, 1925 to Marion and Chester Cleary Stencil, Sr. His family, including his late sister Marilyn, grew up in the Green Lake District of Seattle, attending Daniel Bagley Grade School, and Lincoln High School, Class of 1943. He was drafted into the US Army Corp. of Engineers during WWII. He was always proud of the fact that his unit helped build the airfield the Enola Gay Bomber used during the war. This airfield and the bomber ultimately helped the USA win the war. After the war, he graduate from the University of Washington in 1949 – Majoring in Real Estate and Economics Business.
In 1952 he and his Dad started Globe Realty. He eventually took it over and ran a successful business for 30 years. He was a real estate investor most of his life. He served as President of the North End Brokers Association in 1970.
He married his wonderful wife, and love of his life, Bernice in 1954. They just recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in December. Chet and Bernice have attended Overlake Christian Church for over 44 years, where he faithfully served as an usher for over 35 years. Chet and Bernice also spent many Christmas mornings at the Salvation Army, serving the needy. Chet cherished his family, and spent many happy times with them and their friends at their beach cabin in Gig Harbor. He enjoyed playing a good game of golf, and working outdoors. He had a kind and gentle nature, quick to help, and always having fun. He will be missed very much. Loving husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle and friend.
Chet is now celebrating with his late son, Paul, whom he missed very much. Chet is survived by his wife, Bernice; daughter, Karen Stencil, grandchildren; Shelly and Stephanie Stencil-Curjel, Nathan and Madeleine Stencil-Schwartz; Nieces and Nephews, Elizabeth Cooper (husband Geoff), Jim Rugg (wife Kipling), Kathy Powell (husband Jack) and Randy Powell (wife Judy).
