Donna Pietromonaco, born February 6, 1929, passed away peacefully at her home on Mercer Island on February 6, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Mike Pietromonaco, with whom she shared an enduring love and many adventures traveling the world together.
Donna was a woman of resilience, warmth, and grace, who had a lifelong love of learning. An avid reader and admirer of the Arts – ballet, theater, symphonies, poetry, and watercolor – she delighted in beauty and found even greater joy in sharing it with others. She treasured good food, British mysteries, and brought laughter into ordinary days with her sharp sense of humor.
Donna was deeply devoted to her family and took genuine interest in their lives and passions. She had a thoughtful way of caring for people; saving newspaper clippings about your new hobby, recording a captivating dance she thought you’d enjoy, or sharing a book she believed would speak to you. She showed her love in practical ways, too; making sure you had proper winter boots if yours were inadequate, and in quieter ones, by showing up fully present to every school function and family gathering.
She possessed a quiet wisdom that others naturally turned to for thoughtful counsel. Her love was steady, sincere, and deeply felt, leaving a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Above all, she was the heart of her family, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a cherished friend.
Donna is survived by her beloved children, Michael, Kathy, Toni, Elaine, and Teresa, nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren, who will carry her love and generous spirit forward.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Fred Hutch or the charity of your choice. A private family service will be held.
