

Teenie Priest was born to Edgar and Bertha Prater on July 7, 1922 in Spokane, Washington. Her birth name was Frances Evaline Prater. She grew up in Seattle. She was raised by her grandmother Evelyn Woodcock Frazelle, better known as Lolly. She graduated from Queen Anne High School. While attending Queen Anne High School she met Reidar Sumstad. They both sang in the Acapella Choir. They married on November 2, 1941. They had four children; Reidar, Ron, Bill and Dave. Teenie was an LPN at both Maynard and Harborview Hospitals in Seattle and numerous nursing homes. Teenie and Reidar were Co-PTA Presidents, and were active in the community in Scouting. The Sumstad family enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing and singing. Reidar passed away in May of 1967, after 26 years of marriage.
Teenie then married Richard Priest in 1978. They enjoyed traveling and boating. He passed away in November of 2010 after 32 years of marriage.
Teenie became a Christian as a young adult. She was dedicated to the study of the Word of God and prayer. She attended the Seattle Revival Center, the Neighborhood Church of Bellevue, and Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo. She was an accomplished soloist and pianist. Music and singing were a significant part of her life and the life of her children.
She lived in many places including Green Lake, Fort Lawton, Skyway, Vashon Island, Granite Falls, Redmond, Eastgate, Bainbridge Island and Poulsbo. Teenie went to be with the Lord while a resident of Cristwood Nursing Home in Shoreline. Her favorite movies were “Ann of Green Gables,” and “The Sound of Music.” If she was watching TV, it was probably the Christian stations of TBN or Daystar. She loved to sew, and crochet. She enjoyed traveling to California and Alaska; as well as a tour of Israel and Egypt.
Teenie went to be with the Lord on March 17, 2011. She is preceded in death by her husbands Reidar and Richard. She is survived by her son Reidar (wife Rhonda) of Tucson, Arizona, son Ron of Kettle Falls, Washington, son Bill (wife Sharon) of Kirkland, son David (wife Maryann) of Bonnie Lake, Washington. She had three step sons Bill (wife Vicki), Ken, Mark (wife Jean), along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She is described by her sons as loving, wonderful, blessed, faithful, beautiful, matriarch, prayer warrior, fighter, forgiving, and a rock. “Absent from the body, at home with the Lord.” II Corinthians 5:8
