I only just found out... I'm in shock. I assumed that he would always be at the Celtic Bayou, small notebook in hand recording his thoughts and the facts around him, while we trampled the competition during trivia night. I am sorry that his huge smile won't beam on the rest of us anymore.

When I first met him, I knew him only as Ragnar, an eclectic friend with whom I occasionally camped and chatted at SCA events. Over time, I had the privilege to know him as George, a quick-witted, fair-minded man with layers upon layers of personality and depth. It feels like I had just started to get to know him, and I know that my life will be poorer for the loss of him. My condolences to Lisa, and to all who knew him.

I met George through the SCA in 1975 (AS X). He became a brother and protector to me and will always have a special place in my heart.  I will always remember him as my "little brother".

May the Halls of Valhalla greet you with open arms.  I will miss sharing our favorite scotchs at Pennsic.

Ragnarr was one of the most gentle of Royal Peers that I knew. From the beginning of our own term as B&B in Aquaterra when he and Bergdis met with us to help us form a "game plan" until the last feast we attended with him he was always caring and interested in us for ourselves. We are going to miss him deeply, for he was a good part of our world.

I met George at a writer's workshop many years ago before I found out we had the SCA in common. We spent a lot of time talking. After that I kept running into him (when I could see him). How a man so tall could just disappear in a room... I started calling him Ragnar the Chameleon. I always looked forward to seeing him at writer's workshops, SF/F conventions and SCA events. I will miss him.

Memories may be what we are left with, but in those we are rich.  I remember smiles and jokes, but also intelligence which he often tried to hide along with his caring.  I remember when Prince Ragnar created the University of Atlantia and how much he sincerely wanted to leave that legacy to his reign.  I remember the big guy who lost so many fights, mostly because he did not want to hurt anyone.  I remember the man who always lent a hand to others or a dollar even when it was the only one he had.  I remember a friend that will be missed and hope that his family find consolation and peace.  And oh yeah Rags,  I'm facing east and yelling loudly, "BURN ENGLAND!"

I was shocked to hear of George's passing. I met George ("Rags") many years ago in the SCA and was honored to know him and to participate in his investiture as Prince of Atlantia.
I hope the Valkyries were gentle and that he may feast in Valhalla with the rest of the heroes.

My condolences to George's family and friends.  He had been a close friend for many years, many years ago, and I always thought of him as a man in which intelligence, humor and charisma were combined to produce a unique result -- he was like no one else.  It's hard to believe he's gone.

George and TYR were Bob & Paul's first publishers (Space Opera).  He was my first seneschal.  He was one of a very select group at our wedding.  He was humble but confident, funny but sincere, and a good friend.  Lisa, you're in our prayers.

I will miss George.  I already miss the idea of George in this world, wryly commenting on its follies.  The unwritten stories and unspoken works weigh heavily.  He was the most interesting writer I ever knew.

Oh, George. For someone I haven't seen in the better part of two decades, you have claimed an inordinate share of my memories database. You were a big part of my life for 15 years, and though we dropped out of contact, it never crossed my mind that we might never meet again. Milady de Williams sends love, and says goodbye.

We built an instrument for George.  I don't know how much he played it but, it sure was fun building one with Thor's hammers for soundholes.  We thought George was a great guy.

For those of his friends that were (or are) in the SCA.  I met Ragnarr at my first fighter practice, in A.S. 9.  Having to fight a 6'5" left your first day is...intimidating.  My condolences to everyone who knew him, and especially to his lady wife and family.  He was always a gentleman, and a noble in the best sense of the word.  Alas, I have lost a friend, but An Tir has lost a treasure.

I know my life has been made better by knowing George/Ragnar.  Now it is a bit sadder knowing he is gone. I was made welcome when I first met him.  I shall miss him in the coming years. Pennsic shall not be the same. He was one of the people I looked forward to seeing year after year. My best to those closest to him. He was a soul I shall not forget.

It's been a number of years since I've seen George (whom I knew as "Rags.")  But I do have fond memories of him in the SCA...during his time in Atlantia (southeast US).  He created an entity in Atlantia that is still gowing strong and continues to get bigger and better when he and his Princess chartered the University of Atlantia.  This probably won't mean much to those outside the SCA, but for those of us who are members, this is a great memory and a tribute to his vision. Wish I had seen more of you in recent years....I hope that your passage was a peaceful one!

Farewell, dear friend--you are sorely missed already!

I know it sounds sort of cliched, but it just won't be the same in this world without George in it...his wonderfully skewed sense of humor, his real warmth under that burly exterior, that wicked chuckle that let you in on the joke.  I don't think I have one memory of going to Pennsic without George in the middle of it, making an indelible memory.  I'm sorry that I didn't make more time to visit with him over the years, and his lost will be truly felt.  Lisa, know that I'm thinking of you, with much love and sympathy.
