The world lost a gentle presence and a brave heart September 14, 2012. Ken was a true Pacific Northwest native, born July 17, 1928 in Seattle to James and Lila Barr. He graduated from John Muir grade school, Franklin High School, and the University of Washington where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and earned a degree in Forestry. Through the Boy Scouts he gained a life-long love of the mountains, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Ken served in the Army in Japan. He worked for 40 years as an appraiser and was a member of the American Society of Appraisers. Ken was a long serving member of the Bellevue First Presbyterian Church. Predeceased by daughter Nancy in 1994 and brother Neal August 14, 2012. Ken passed away peacefully at home leaving behind his wife of 57 years, Peggy, his daughters Heather Hawley and Karen Mueller (Tom), and grandchildren Tia, William, Robert, Sarah, Brianna and Peter.
