Kylie R. Hammington, 42 year old mother of three from Federal Way, WA tragically died in a car accident on March 4, 2015. She leaves behind her three children, Tayler Hammington and Colton and Connor Wickens. She is also survived by her parents Colin Hammington (Wellington NZ) and Denise McDermott and step father Dennis McDermott of Bellevue WA, her eternal partner Tyke Reasy, brothers Joe (Angela), Guy (Kui), Chris (Susan) and Jeremy Hammington (Shona), blended family siblings Dan (Amy), Doug (Carmen) McDermott, and Coreen (Fidel) Urrutia, her aunts and uncles and her many nieces and nephews.
Kylie was born on Friday the 13th October 1972 to Colin and Denise Hammington in Invercargill, New Zealand. Kylie joined three older brothers Jeremy, Guy and Christopher from Colin's previous marriage. Kylie's younger brother Joe arrived some sixteen months later. Whilst Jeremy stayed in New Zealand to attend university, the rest of the family moved to the USA in February 1977. For the first year, the family lived with or close to Denise's parents before finding their eventual home in the state of Washington. Kylie attended Fairwood Elementary School, Meeker Junior High and Kentridge High School where she was part of the drill team. At the age of 19, Kylie and Tommy Rhyneer were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Tayler Denise. During her life, Kylie worked in a number of different vocations including that of a private investigator, karaoke host and, upon obtaining her real estate license, with her father in real estate. During the following years, she met and married Sean Wickens with whom she had her two boys Colton and Connor. During this time, Kylie attended Green River College where she ultimately received her Associates degree in Arts. Following this, Kylie trained and became certified as a Court Reporter. She pursued her chosen vocation while raising her three children. In 2011, Kylie met her eternal partner Matthew (Tyke) Reasy with whom she shared some of the happiest years of her life. In the beginning of 2014, Kylie was proud to launch her own business, Hammington Reporting LLC.
Outside of her working life Kylie was passionate about many activities including support for her community and the schools within, and various charities including participating in the Susan G. Komen Cancer Walk. As Colton and Connor grew up, Kylie could always be found on the sideline at their soccer, baseball or basketball games. Kylie participated in as many things as she could juggle. She organized and ran the school fund raising auctions for both Colton and Connor’s schools and was a member of the CYO Commission, PEP Club, as well as serving on the Computer Reporting Technologies Advisory Committee at Green River College.
The most important things in her life were family and friends, and her children were always her top priority. As her many friends have experienced, a phone call to Kylie at any time of the day or night, no matter how busy she was, would get her full, caring attention, or sometimes a visit from her, generally coupled with a bottle of wine.
Kylie loved music, particularly live music, and she could belt out a song during karaoke that would silence the crowd; her version of "Fancy" would bring down the house. One of Kylie's greatest joys was to be in the audience to cheer on Tyke and his band Once Upon A Tuesday. Her support of Tyke and his love of music was never ending.
Kylie’s incredible spirit touched most everybody she met as evidenced by the heartfelt responses to her untimely passing. A message that seems to resonate over and over is that you would never leave in a bad mood once Kylie entered the room; she was a cheerful presence wherever she went.
“Caught in the full bloom of life, a woman of independence, vivacity and devotion to family and friends, dearly loved and respected by us all. The presence of her absence is everywhere.”
In lieu of flowers, the Kylie Hammington Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of her children. Contributions may be made at:
