Margaret Evelyn (Iversen) Johnson

Maggie was born on September 11, 1936, in Seattle, Washington. She attended grade school in Kirkland, Washington, junior high school in Marysville, Washington, and high school at Bellevue High School (BHS), where she graduated in 1954. Maggie participated in many Bellevue High activities, serving as Girl Club president her senior year. After receiving a BHS scholarship, she attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. At Whitman, she was an active member of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta, served as Panhellenic president, and was honored as May Fete queen. She graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Following graduation, she continued her association with Whitman as an alumni class representative and reunion chair.

Maggie married her college sweetheart, Max Johnson, in 1959. After their wedding, they moved to Claremont, California, where she worked at Pomona College to support Max’s graduate studies. They returned to the Seattle area in 1961 and raised two daughters in Bellevue. Over their 65-year marriage, Maggie and Max traveled extensively and lived in Chatham, New Jersey; Portland, Oregon; and Denver, Colorado before moving into the Yarrow Point home they built in 1991 and where they resided together for 33 years.

Whether as host or guest, Maggie loved a good party. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family, and she took pride in designing and decorating her home. She was a proud Daughter of Norway and a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Maggie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a dear friend to many. She amazed all who knew her with her resilience in the face of serious health issues in recent years.

She is preceded in death by her parents Alvin E. Iversen and Sigrid Boe Carlson Iversen. Maggie is survived by her husband Max, daughters Laurie A. Johnson (John Riley) and Lisa Johnson Moore (David Moore), granddaughter Katherine Boe Riley, and brother Alvin J. Iversen (Sandra).

A private service is being planned.
