

Marilyn was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico and graduated from Colegio Nuestra Sra. del Carmen high school. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science at Universidad de Puerto Rico in Biology, magna cum laude. She then attended the Universidad de Puerto Rico Medical School and graduated cum laude. After finishing her doctorate in Medicine, she moved to Michigan to begin her Internal Medicine residency. Marilyn then moved to Seattle and worked in medical research at the University of Washington and began teaching night classes in human physiology at Shoreline Community College. Once completing her residency at Virginia Mason in Seattle, Marilyn began her practice at Valley Medical Center in Newcastle. She worked as a physician for 6 years until starting her career at Grifols.
Beginning at Grifols as a Center Medical Director, Marilyn went on to hold several key roles within the organization. Most recently, as the Chief Medical Officer and Sr. Vice President of Global Plasma & Regulatory Affairs, she was devoted to building a physician network supporting plasma donors in the U.S. and standardizing operating procedures for product and donor safety. Marilyn was a well-respected leader in her industry, brought value and new ways of solving problems, and honored each person for their ideas and actions that they contributed.
Marilyn loved to travel and visited many parts the world for her work responsibilities and vacationing with her husband, Frank. As a teenager she played the organ at weddings and the bass for the school band. She also loved her cat Albert, who helped her with work by sitting on her keyboard during Zoom calls. Marilyn had a lot of love for her family. She delighted in watching her niece, Alanys and goddaughter, Dianelys grow up. As a stepmother, she was always available to give love, guidance, and support to her stepson, Allen.
Marilyn had a big smile for everyone and brought joy to the life of those she was with.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Frank, her stepson Allen, father Tomas, stepmother Priscilla, brother Tommy, sisters Gerardina and Anabel, niece Alanys, and goddaughter Dianelys. She is also survived by many uncles, aunts, and cousins and close friends that loved her like family. She was preceded in death by her mother Maria Mercedes Lopez Lopez.
Funeral services will take place at Sunset Hills Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Bellevue, Washington on Monday, June 19th, 2023 at 1pm with a reception following. Burial services will be held in Hatillo, Puerto Rico date and time for services to be determined.
