Mel proudly served his country for 10 years in the United States Marine Corps, traveling the world and living by the Corps’ values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. Beneath his strong Marine exterior was a heart full of kindness. He was always ready to help family, friends, or strangers and believed there was always someone who had it harder than he did.
During his cancer treatments, Mel was deeply moved by the children fighting the same disease. He often said how he wished he could take away their pain – a reflection of his selfless spirit.
Mel is survived by his loving partner, Laura; his children Mel Fisher Jr. (Candy), Craig Fisher (Michelle), Ryan Fisher (Tara), Daniel Esselbech (Shea), Katie Guinn (Kevin), Bryan Clarke (Michelle); his cherished grandchildren; and the many teenagers he welcomed into his home over the years.
Mel’s legacy of strength, compassion, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
