“Muts,” as Mutsuko was lovingly known and the wife of Peter K. Okada, passed away on June 14th at the age of 98. Mutsuko was born in Seattle but moved to California during the Great Depression. In 1980 she returned to Washington and lived in Kirkland for 44 years. She attended Lighthouse Christian Church and belonged to the Bellevue Square Senior Walking Group. She was an accomplished third-degree black belt in Aikido, and recently received a proclamation from the City of Kirkland for the Day of Remembrance of Japanese American Incarceration during World War II. Mutsuko is survived by her 5 children, Leslie Roberts (TN), Jerrie Kydd (Las Vegas), Peter Okada (Tokyo), Mark Okada (GA) and Andy Okada (WA), who has been her caregiver for the last 10 years. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, was loved by many and a friend to all and will be truly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 26th at Sunset Hills Funeral Home 1215 145th Pl SE, Bellevue, WA. Come anytime between 1 – 4 pm and share your favorite memory of Muts while enjoying some of her favorite light refreshments. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to your favorite charity in Mutsuko Okada’s name.
