Ngan Fung Wong

Ngan Fung Wong, born March 9, 1914 in Toisan, China passed away May 30, 2019 at the age of 105 in her home in Seattle surrounded by family and loved ones. She was married to her husband, Pang Wong, for over 70 years until his passing in 2001. We will always remember her strength, determination, and grace with which she lived her life. She was a beloved matriarch who raised a large family of nine children, 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

In her early life, she overcame many challenges throughout World War II and the Communist Revolution to bring her family to Hong Kong in 1949. There she worked as a seamstress at a custom tailoring shop that she started with her husband. She emigrated to the United States in 1969, where she lived a full life raising her grandchildren and sharing stories of her past. Despite being in a new country, she continued to make friends with her infectious smile and created a home full of laughter and joy. All who surrounded her felt her enormous heart and generosity. She was an avid sports fan, especially basketball and pro-wrestling, and was often seen and heard cheering along. Playing mahjong was her favorite pastime as well as spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even in her last days, she always made sure to keep abreast of all her family near and far. She is loved by everyone in her life, a true inspiration, and will be missed dearly.

Ngan Fung Wong is survived by four generations of family – her four sons: Koon Chor, Koon Poo, Andy Koon Kow, and Andy Koon Ki; four daughters, So An, So Chi, Teresa, and Alice; 2 daughters-in-law: Lisa and Colleen; son-in-law Kwok Hing; 16 grandchildren, Megan, Brian, Maggie, Melissa, Zachary, Quentin, Kaitlyn, Natasha, Kin Ming, Raymond, Rosa, King Man, Robert, Irene, Marlin, Phyllis, and their respective families; the family of her late younger brother, Mah See Buhn; the family of her late cousin Mah See Cheew; the families of her late husband’s siblings; and her late husband’s cousin, Paul Wong and family.
