Pat was born in Moro, OR on May 3, 1927 to Harry and Nina (Searcy) Pinkerton. The third of four siblings, Pat spent her childhood years on her family's wheat ranch in Sherman County, OR, an experience that defined her idea of happiness for the rest of her life. She graduated from Moro High School in 1945, attended Willamette University, and intended to become a teacher. Her head was soon turned by fellow student Victor Ferdinand Malen. They married in 1946 after a whirlwind courtship and had 4 children. Pat and Vic moved their family from Astoria, OR to Bellevue, WA in 1957 to participate in the building boom before starting a family construction company. Pat spoke her mind and kept the company books.
She and Vic were avid golfers, long-time members of Sahalee CC, and enjoyed golf trips to Hawaii. Pat had an accurate swing, was adept at sand traps, and won a number of Ladies tournaments. She was a game sailor and, despite being afraid of deep water, helped sail their boat, the Athena, from California to Seattle. They held season tickets to the Seahawks, Seattle Symphony POPS, and local community theater companies. They attended Grace Lutheran Church and most recently, Bellevue First Presbyterian Church. Pat played drums in her high school marching band and accompanied many annual family Christmas sing-a-longs on the piano. She had her hair set every week, maintained a set of immaculate fingernails, read romance novels, worked jigsaw puzzles, and ate cookies. She loved all animals and they loved her. She kept a detailed calendar of all her extensive family members special birthdays and anniversaries, remembering to send a special card, to those near and far. It wouldn’t be the same without her special card in the mail.
Pat was predeceased by her loving husband Vic in 2018. She is survived by daughters Carol Kyllingstad, Susan Dunaway (Richard), Joan McCauley; son Thomas (Sharon); 10 grandchildren Barbara Kyllingstad, Kirsten Kyllingstad, Erika Salamon, Catherine Albertson, Kristina Eseman, Rachel Malen, Megan Huse, Brian Malen, Jacqueline and Laura McCauley; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; nephews, nieces, & friends. She will be deeply missed but is at home with our Savior.
Donations in Pat's memory can be made to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
