Randy Victor Steadman age 63, passed suddenly February 23, 2020. Randy was born to Herbert and Nancy Steadman on February 18, 1957 in Murray, UT. He graduated from Bingham High School in 1975. Randy wanted to see, be and do more and he knew the military offered him that opportunity. He joined the Navy right after graduation. He did several deployments in Japan and Korea and was honorably discharged from active service in 1979. When asked recently by his grandchildren what he did while serving, his reply was “I chased Russian submarines!”
After release from active duty, Randy enrolled in college and went to work for the Department of Defense, at Moffett Field Naval Station in Mountain View, CA. It was while in class, that a fellow classmate and little did he know, future sister-in-law, would introduce him to his future wife, Debra. They met February 1980 and on March 26, 1980, (yes, just weeks later) he dropped to his knee and proposed to her. They’ve been together ever since. Randy and Debra were married June 13, 1981.
Randy continued to work for the Department of Defense. He was issued a Top-Secret Clearance in 1985 and was transferred along with his young family to the newly constructed Consolidated Space Operations Center (CSOC) in Colorado. Randy and his family were one of the first to be transferred to the new facility.
He later relocated back to the Bay Area and went on to work for G.E. Aerospace, Logitech and then in early 1993, Microsoft recruited and relocated him and his family to the Pacific Northwest.
Randy was an extremely intelligent man. He had an unwavering work ethic. He was fair, honest and highly regarded by his team and colleagues at Microsoft. He grew quickly through the ranks and up until his retirement, had contributed greatly to the successful launch of many products. Randy received many well-deserved awards and accolades during his career there.
Though he was proud of his career accomplishments, Randy’s pride, joy and purpose in life was his family. With the birth of his two children, his daughter Randi who arrived in 1982 and his son Mathew, in 1984, his life was transformed. The focus and passion he had for being a dedicated, doting and devoted father was evident in everything he did. From day one, he was hands on. He coached; never missed a recital, game, meet, concert or competition. It didn’t matter how many times he had seen the performance he wasn’t going to miss it. He was generous with his time, his compassion and his love for them.
This love was multiplied and extended to his grandchildren, Kara, Travis, Calder and Margaret whom he absolutely adored. He enjoyed being Papa/Grandpa more than anything. “We got bonused!” he would say.
Randy was an avid basketball fan. He enjoyed playing in leagues, coaching his children and cheering on his favorite team, the Boston Celtics. He also enjoyed fast cars and watching a good race. His pleasures in life were simple. A plate of his amazing home cooked spaghetti and an ice-cold glass of chocolate milk were all he needed to make him smile.
Randy is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years Debra, daughter Randi Weymouth and her husband Matthew, son, Mathew Steadman and his wife, Elizabeth. His four grandchildren Kara and Travis Weymouth and Calder and Margaret Steadman. He is also survived by his Mother, Nancy Steadman, brother Howard (Patricia), sisters Jeannette Banigan (Michael), Roxanne Gomez (Ernest), Nancylynn Cox (Scott), Rachel Strauss (Jeffrey) Pauline, Linda Finley (Daniel) and Venice. Randy had over 55 nephews and nieces and a very large extended family.
Randy was adored by his wife, children and grandchildren. His presence will be missed, however; they will continue to honor his life and his legacy with an appreciation for the simple things and a life well lived. A private service will be held. If you would like to honor Randy and his life, please donate to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.
