Thomas Joseph Sedlock of Bellevue, WA died unexpectedly on May 6 just days short of his 63rd birthday.
Tom was born to George and Norma Sedlock on May 10, 1948 in Lakewood, OH. He moved to the Seattle area in 1967 where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Washington School of Business and then from the UW Law School.
He spent the majority of his career as a partner in the accounting firm Clark Nuber where he assisted many of Seattle's top business leaders with tax and accounting advice. Tom became a sought after
speaker and taught at the UW. He retired as Executive Vice President/Head of Tax Department after 25 years at the firm in 2003.
To every one's surprise, Tom thrived in the slower pace of retirement and spent as much time as possible at his beloved retreat on Bainbridge Island. He developed a strong interest in photography and took many pictures of the downtown Seattle skyline and Mt. Rainier from his back deck.
The family is thankful that they could share their special trip to Egypt a few years ago where he also took many pictures that will preserve some great memories.
He was an avid Husky football and basketball fan and could cite pass completion statistics back 20 years. Fall always meant going to the home games each Saturday and there are fond memories of trips to the Rose Bowl in 1978 and in 1991 for the national championship.
A voracious reader, he had Wikipedia-like knowledge on a variety of subjects including music, sports, astronomy/physics, medical research, film and JFK conspiracy theories.
Tom also had diverse interests. His wine cellar was quite extensive with a focus on cabernets and champagnes. He loved films and his DVD collection was equally impressive. Science fiction books and movies, however, were a real passion. While not a costume wearing Trekkie, he watched many times and could recount scenes from all of the different Star Trek TV series and movies. When the most recent Star Wars trilogy first came out he arranged for private showings at a local theater for all the employees at Clark Nuber.
He definitely lived life intensely and fulfilled his desires. He will be most remembered for his sense of humor, loud and booming voice, and big heart despite a sometimes gruff exterior.
Tom is survived by his wife of 20 years, Greta Sedlock, step children, Matt and Jana Endicott, parents, George and Norma Sedlock, sister, Janet Wallace, brother-in-law, Rhea Wallace, niece, Kyra Wallace and canine buddy, Junior, who is still waiting for him by the door.
We will all miss our Jedi Master.
The family is planning a small, private memorial. Remembrances may be made to the University of Washington Foundation.
Arrangements entrusted to Sunset Hills Funeral Home, Bellevue, WA.
