Dear Hsu Jiu Jiu,

I just heard from my mom that you left us in October.   I remember so clearly you and the boisterous uncles in our Duen Hwa Nan Rd apartment in Taipei when Amy and I were kids; and then later on, your steady and wise guidance at TCC.  Always with a warm smile, positivity, optimism and a twinkle in your eyes, you have had such profound influence on all the people whose lives you've touched over the years.  I still remember you rock scrambling at Mohonk.  Seeing the photos and videos of your beautiful family and grandchild, I know that you lived a wonderful life surrounded by loved ones.

Uncle Tom, 

You left us so suddenly. I was very excited to learn you had come to the West Coast. I was looking forward to future visits to California or trips up to Washington. I'm so sorry we won't be able to play golf together again, or talk about real estate, or a number of other things. You were always so full of life and smiles. You will be missed dearly.

I was so saddened to hear about Tommy. He was so calm and happy all the time. I still remember when he first came to the US and visited our family when we were living there. I wish I could have gotten to know him more over the years. I did have the pleasure of seeing Vivian in Hong Kong when she lived here.  Such a sad time as Aunt Johanna, and Tommy are both gone. They are both blessed as they led such wonderful lives surrounded by loving family and friends.

We first met on a family dinner when I have just moved to Seattle. I felt welcomed and grateful   that I also have family support here. He looked serious at first, but he turned out to be a very welcoming and joyful person. He also shares many interesting stories that I enjoy listening to. He is very successful as he have built a loving family and have a great attitude towards life.

I'm shocked to hear that you had left us. I worked for TCC more than 11 years. Every time I visited TCC Headquater, you entertained me with courtesy and warmth, and spent time shoping with me. I'll never forget your smile, intelligence, generosity, caring and kindness.

Dearest Tom,

19 years ago, I applied, got accepted, and started what I thought was a job, but ended up to be a second family.  At the head of the household, there was You. No matter how tough the times were, You made the best lemonade out of the sourest lemon.  For 19 years, I don't remember a single day, I didn't see you smile. Lead by example, you showed me how to enjoy every moment of life, regardless how bad it may seem.  For 19 years, there hasn't been one doubt or worry in my mind that you couldn't  wipe away with a light hearted sentence of wisdom. For 19 years, there was not one moment I didn't feel safe in our home, even till the very end.

It has been the best 19 years of my life.

Growing up, I have always looked forward to visiting "a-dada's" home during the holiday season.  It was a time to eat, catch up and play, which ultimately always results in all of the children chasing each other in a circle.  I still hold fond memories of these gatherings.

Dear Tommy,
It was a big shock when I heard on last Thursday that you had left us.  You were intelligent, kind, caring, generous as well as patient, trust-worthy and responsible; you were the best friend I could ever ask for.
I remember back in 1976, one year after I came to The States for study, you took me under your wing and landed a summer job for me, so I was able to work and save towards finishing my graduate study. I am forever grateful for your help.
When my time is up, we will meet again to resume our friendship, but tables will be turned then; I will take care of you like you had done for your beloved family and friends for your entire life on earth.
We both acquired a taste for good Scotch Whisky, I just poured two, one for you and the other for me; rest in peace, Tommy, I miss you very much, I love you man!

Sending my deepest condolences to the Hsu family. I first met Tommy in college where I met one of my best friends , his daughter Karen. The Hsu's were always the sweetest and most generous parents when they visited, stocking our poor college student kitchens with goodies, making homemade dinners, and taking genuine interest in getting to know all of Karen's friends. During college, I spent several holidays at the Hsu residence in New Jersey, since Karen's family lived much closer than mine. Tommy and Lily welcomed me into their home and made me feel like family any time I visited. Most recently, living in San Diego, I will remember Tommy as a kind, fun-loving, generous, and proud father & grandfather. You could sense his adoration for his family just by being in the same room as him. His personality definitely shines through in Karen's personality - i know he's inspired her love of travel, food, fun and adventure. Sending all of my love to the Hsu family, and to an amazing father, grandfather, friend, sibling, person that will be so deeply missed on this earth. <3 XOXO

Dear Lily, Vivian, and Karen,

We were all shocked and saddened to hear the news about Tommy’s passing.  He was such a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  

We are thankful to have also known Tommy as a wonderful friend.  We still have vivid memories of him helping Julie with her insomnia, patiently coaching her on how to breath to relax and fall sleep. 

When Tommy and Lily moved to Seattle to join Vivian and her growing family, we were very happy for them.  We promised we would visit once they settled into their new house and play golf together again.  

We will miss Tommy dearly for his generosity, kindness, and wisdom.  We have a picture from our last dinner together before he and Lily moved West.  It said it all: “You will be missed.”

I remember many family gatherings growing up with all the cousins. Uncle Tom was always a friendly and generous presence at these events. The last time I saw him was at a family event in San Jose and he shared how much he was looking forward to grandchildren; I am so glad he got to spend so much time with grand daughter Kira.

Tommy is a part of my earliest memories from childhood, and I've carried such positive memories from our various visits/sightings over the years.  I was so glad to see him in Seattle on my last trip before the lockdown - I'll think the image I'll carry forward is Tommy holding and doting on Kira.  

The other part of Tommy that I will always carry forward is his awesome laugh.  I can hear it joyfully resonating right now.

It's hard to believe that Uncle Tom is gone, since he was so incredibly full of life.  He lives in our memories for his kindness, sense of fun, and generosity of spirit, which were truly infectious. Some of our very best family memories include yearly Thanksgiving dinners at the Hsu house, when Uncle Tom was always a gracious host and frequently had a new technique to show off, including deep frying turkeys!  

In recent years, we have felt fortunate to continue to come together for major family milestones, even as life has taken us to different places and often different coasts.  It has always been so clear how much Tom loved all of his girls, most recently Kira, and how much he was loved in return. Please know that our thoughts are with you at this difficult time, and we hope to see all of you very soon.

We are dreadfully shocked to learn the news that you lost your beloved husband and Dad, also a close relative of our family.
Cousin Tommy, as the frontier of US immigrate, helped our family, as well as other relatives, settled down in the United States about 35-38 years ago. Today  all our family members and other relatives that came from China ,  are leading a happy and free life, but we will never forget what Uncle Tommy had done and contributed for us.

It was a big shock for us to learn the pass away of Tom-our brother -in-law on October 15, 2020.

I am going to miss my friend Tommy. From the golf course to the poker table to vacations to Dim Sum to dinners with a bottle of wine from his collection to just waving hello from across the street, it just won't be the same. Condolences and best wishes to Lily, Vivian, Karen, Bochao and Kira.

We are grateful for the opportunity to have known Tom.  He shared with us his warmth, love of life, and the pride & joy he always felt for his family.  His easy-going laughter brought many a smile to our faces.  To Lily, Vivian, Karen, & family, please know that we are thinking of you here in NJ.  Tom was truly a wonderful person who will be sorely missed.

Tommy, my dear cousin 小哥哥 had always been so caring and warm.  Every time we visited New York, he always insisted to show us around and made sure we enjoyed our trip.  The photo was taken when we were kids; Tommy was the one at the left in the back row.  There are so many memorable moments we spent together since childhood.  He will be missed dearly by all of us, families in Taiwan and China.

Tommy was my cousin. We visited him and Lily ,and Vivian and Karen a couple of times from Australia. He was Such a lovely man who cared deeply for his family. It was wonderful to see that he got to meet his gorgeous granddaughter and spend time with her. I wish we could have visited him again. Condolences to all the family. Not only was Tom a great husband to my sister, Lily,  he was also a good brother to me. He was a loving father to Vivian and Karen, and he was fun, caring uncle to Wendy and Betsy. Actually, he was very good with all the children, everyone wanted to play with him when the family got together. Kira, I am so sorry you will miss growning up with your loving grandfather.

I was profoundly sad to find out about Tom's passing. I will always remember the happy times we shared and the kind and generous help to our family when we were in need. We will miss you.

We were always so fortunate to be around Uncle Tommy & Lily 阿姨 especially most of the time with both Karen & Vivian present. The love Uncle Tommy had for all of his girls (and now Kira) was so obvious and I remember always knowing how special that was - what a wonderful example of fatherly love he was to all of us and how lucky he was to have such a lovely family who clearly adored him.

To Kira, I'm so sorry you won't have the chance to know your grandfather.  He was a wonderful man, husband and father. He was a good friend to me and many other people. Of all the memories I have of your grandfather, from the endless rounds of golf, numerous meals, countless golf trips, karaoke with friends (he wouldn't sing, but your grandmother sang enough for both), times just hanging out, the story I want to tell you is the way your grandfather defended his beliefs in sharing and caring for all people.  In an era when many people are focused on what is good for themselves, your grandfather believed in betterment of the community. He once said to me...I would rather pay more in taxes so others could be taken care of! When you get older, you will understand how rare that is. Your grandfather was a rare, unique and wonderful man. I miss him

Tom, as we called him in the company, is a fatherly figure in Timecruiser. Being a co-founder and a partner of Tom, I had the honor and pleasures to work side by side with him for 25 years. Tom's honesty, integrity, straight-forward work attitude and life-loving philosophy inspired everyone and became the basis of Timecruiser's family culture. His business shrewdness and sensible judgements guided the company through many ups and downs over the years. We looked up to him and had a rare sense of "safety" as a startup company knowing Tom was always in our back, ready to pull us out of any trouble. Tom was a big brother to me and a father to many of our younger colleagues. We are forever in debt to Tom.
 
Rest in peace, Tom. Your kind smile and loving spirit will always be in our hearts.

Too many good memories to count ... From rubbing his hair in a state of bliss after a good meal and glass of wine to the smirk on his face after he drained a long putt to victory on the course. You'll be sorely missed, my dear friend.

Tom was there with us every single day, our best days and our worst days. Every one from TCC loves him. We are going to miss him so much.

Our friend Tom was one of the kindest, caring, sweet, funny and generous people that my family ever knew. He would go out of his way to be there for us and we would never hesitate to do the same for him, Lily, Vivian or Karen. We were neighbors for 26+ years and despite moving to Seattle a year ago, we refer to 5 Lorraine Court as the HSU HOUSE (and always will).  We will miss you Tommy.
