

Xu Do was born in Viet Nam, the oldest son in the family with five sisters. His parents moved to Vietnam from China. He was raised by Mai Do and Du Do in South Vietnam where his family owned a small bakery in town. He married Lang Chau in 1952, and together they had two sons, Phu and Sonny.
Three years after the Viet Nam War ended, Xu and his family escaped the country by boat to Indonesia. There they were transferred from one refugee camp to another. Xu was among the early group of “Boat People” who ran away from Viet Nam searching for a better future.On their Journey searching for freedom he lost his father on a small island in Indonesia.
Finally in November 1980, Xu and his family immigrated to The United States and settled in Washington State. For the first nine years in the US he spent all his time taking care of his mother until she passed away in 1989, hats off to him. In 1990, shortly after his mother’s death, he had an abnormal cardiac bypass surgery. Then a few years later he developed diabetes and lived on a special diet. In 2010 he started suffering from dementia and it became difficult to care for him. Although, he had a long history of illness, lived far away from his homeland, he had a joyful life together with his lovely wife, who was always there to love and care for him.
He loved traditional Vietnamese music, traveling, baking cookies, moon-cake and playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Lang Chau, two sons, Phu (Emily) & Sonny (Tina) Do, and seven grandchildren. His grandchildren are Alexander, Andrew, Anthony, Allen, Crystal, Brandon, and little Nancy, all of Kirkland WA. His youngest sister lives in Bellevue, WA, and his other two sisters live in Viet Nam.
