I met Johny while working with Arkansans for compassionate care. While volunteering together we became friends. He was a great man that was always willing to lend a hand and help make the environment better. He had a great smile and always had a positive attitude. We used to walk down Dickson Street getting signatures to help legalize Medical Cannabis, something we were passionate about while having some drinks and enjoying life. I didn’t know him long but I’m going to miss him dearly and will have his family and Nancy in my thoughts. Every time we talked I asked about Nancy. I remember when she had broken a paw and he was so sad about it...I hope everyone is doing as best as they can in this tough time.

Johny was my student in Upward Bound as a high school student, and then we became friends and saw each other about once a year after he graduated. He was truly one of the kindest, sweetest and loving people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing.

He is gone too soon and will be greatly missed.

Johny will always be remembered by me as one of the kindest, friendliest, and most polite people I’ve ever had the privilege to know. He always had a big smile, kind words, and great food to share. It is an understatement to say he will be sorely missed.

I saw Johny right before the new year(socially distanced because COVID). We were talking about what happened to me over the last couple of years and where I was and how I was beginning to crawl out of depression. He pulled no punches about the the events that lead up to being “canceled” from local society, but he was also very careful in his conversation with me. He left and we never talked again. I wish I could have had the chance to thank him for hearing me, for talking to me.

I will always remember him as a great friend and great man. He loved his son so much and talked about him often. My love and prayers are with you all during this time.

Our whole team at Maxine’s loved Johnny very much. He was always a joy to serve and we loved seeing his smile across the bar. His work on food not bombs was admirable. And his kindness was immeasurable.
Much love to Johnny’s whole family at this time,
From Ben, Hannah, Anthony, Jorge, Francis, JD, and Lindsey.
