Marcia Roumayne McKenney, 96, of Bella Vista passed away February 17, 2022. She was born August 12, 1925 in Polk, Nebraska to the late Sterling Gilbert Nelson and Violet Gustafson Nelson. She was also preceded by her husband, Melvin “Mac” McKenney; her sisters, Marlene Glen and Dolores Humphrey; her brother, Gary Nelson; 3 daughters, Susan McKenney, Karen Akin, Elizabeth Wedding and a son-in-law, Jay Wedding. Marcia attended public schools in York and Stromsburg, Nebraska before graduating from high school in Auburn, Nebraska in 1943. On January 22, 1944 she married the love of her life, Melvin “Mac” McKenney in Emporia, Virginia where he was stationed with the US Army during World War II. Following his discharge, their family lived in Lincoln, Franklin, Plattsmouth, and Nebraska City, Nebraska; Rapid City and Vermillion, South Dakota, and Dodge City and Topeka, Kansas through the years. Marcia and Mac retired in Bella Vista in 1985. Wherever they were, she was an active volunteer and tireless church worker. Marcia was a member of Bella Vista Community Church, where she served on several boards, held several positions, was a Stephen Minister and Stephen leader. She also volunteered at Northwest Medical Center and Bella Vista Library. Survivors include her daughter, Kay McKenney of Wichita, Kansas; her son, Stephen (Barbara) McKenney of Albert Lea, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Amy Ahmed, Cathleen Musser, Brian (Sarah) McKenney, Nathan (Laura) McKenney, and 11 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service is being planned for this spring at Bella Vista Community Church.
