

Martha Anita Hamil passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in Oklahoma City at the age of 90. Anita was born July 21, 1933, in Woodland Township near Crescent, OK, to Ivie E. and Pauline (Moody) Stallcup. After attending Draughon's School of Business, Anita started her career as a secretary in Wichita, KS, working for Santa Fe Trailways. After moving to OKC in 1963 to be closer to family, she held several secretarial positions including Philco, Leeway, Air Products, and GE/Trane. She had been working for Marriott Hotels when she retired. She was a member of Putnam City Baptist Church and later Cherokee Hills Baptist Church. She and her late husband, Dorman, were avid square dancers and were members of several square dancing clubs including the Silver Spur Club and the Cowboy Loop Club. They held several officer positions in their various clubs, as well as in the Oklahoma Central District Square Dance Association. Anita enjoyed reading, traveling, and RVing. She was also a wonderful seamstress, making her and her daughter’s square dance dresses as well as formal dresses for her daughter and granddaughter. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Lillie Gregory, and her husband of 58 years, Dorman. She is survived by her son, David Hamil of OKC; daughter, Debi Besenfelder and husband, Eddy, of Bakersfield, CA; 2 granddaughters, Tina Collier and husband, Jason, and Andrea Allen and husband, Dane; and 3 great-grandchildren, Nicholas Collier, Erik Allen, and Andrew Allen.
A visitation for Anita will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Bill Merritt Funeral Service with the family present from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Bill Merritt funeral Service. A graveside service will occur Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Kingfisher Cemetery.
