

Charles William Gunter, a proud veteran of the Army, passed away July 9, 2021. Chuck was born in Wewoka, OK on October 1, 1946 to James and Wanda Gunter. He attended Atoka Highschool where he excelled at many things; including basketball, choir, and drama. After high school he attended one semester at Central State, where he met the love of his life, Marsha. Chuck was then drafted to the US Army in 1966, at the age of 19. He and Marsha married 1966 before Chuck left for Vietnam in 1967. He spent one year in Vietnam serving as a Corporal in the 32nd artillery Battalion. After being honorably discharged in 1968, Chuck returned and finished his degree majoring in business. Charles worked first at the Westinghouse manufacturing plant, Universal Plastics, and then Shaklee until 1983. In 1983, Charles quit his job to pursue being a business owner. In 1984 he open Gunter Investigative Agency, which he ran until 2008 when he retired.
Some of his proudest accomplishments include various medals and ribbons for his time in Vietnam and being awarded Volunteer of the Year by OKC Public Schools. He also was part of the committee to create the laws for the training and licensing for private investigators in Oklahoma, helped endowed a scholarship for Vietnamese students to OU and constantly served his church community by teaching VBS, Sunday school and helping with the children. However, what he was most proud of was always his family.
Chuck was preceded by his parents James Elmo Gunter and Evelyn Wanda Whitley-Gunter, his brother James Rueben Gunter, his sisters Barbra Ann Gunter-Mitchell and Billy Kathleen Brown-Nelson, and his son Charles Harry Gunter. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marsha Kay Bickford-Gunter, his daughter Kimberly Kay Gunter-Anderson, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
