

Derrold Duane “Sonny” Niles, 71, went to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, Thursday April 29th, 2010 at 5:30 a.m. He was surrounded by beloved family and friends when he departed this earth on his journey to Heaven.
He leaves behind many loving family members and friends including his loving and compassionate wife, Brenda, of the home, his mother Ruby Niles of Crescent, two daughters, Sherry Butler and husband Charlie of OKC and Michelle Tarrant and husband Scott of Crescent, three sons, Scott Schulz and wife Amy of OKC, Mike Niles and wife Kay of Mustang, and Mark Niles and wife Lisa of OKC, two Step-Children Kyle Leathers of Arcadia and Renee Leathers-Pina of Enid, one brother, Jerry Niles and wife Helen of Corpus Christi, TX, 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grand children and many nieces and nephews and cousins. His chosen family includes Sherry Butler-Wilson and children of Colorado and Craig and Mel Smith and girls of OKC. He also leaves behind his special dog and companion, Honey, who is already lost without him.
Sonny was born October 1st, 1938 in El Reno to Derrold and Ruby Niles. He graduated from Midwest City High School in 1957. After high school he joined the Army and was a paratrooper in the 82nd infantry stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his enlistment with the Army he made 28 exhilarating jumps. One of his dreams was to make one final jump with his daughter Sherry on his 70th birthday but due to his ailing health he never got to check that dream off his bucket list.
He lived in Crescent, OK. for many years and resided in OKC, OK. at the time of his departure to Heaven. He is preceded in death by father Derrold Niles, brother David Niles late wife Carol Niles and baby boy Duane Niles. Sonny was an active member of Lakeview Park Church of the Nazarene. He had a passion for life and people and he never met a stranger. He had a smile that would light up the darkest of any room.
Please join us for a celebration of Sonny’s life beginning at 10:00a.m. Monday, May 3rd, 2010, at Lakeview Park Church of the Nazarene located at 3500 N.W. 50th, OKC, OK. Interment with military honors will be following the service at 2:00 p.m. at Oakland Knowles Cemetery in Crescent, OK.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Bethany Daily Living Center and to all the wonderful and loving doctors and nurses at Integris Baptist Hospital, who took care of him for the last 16 days of his amazing life. Contributions and memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and/or to the Daily Living Center in Bethany, OK.
We love and miss you Sonny. We can’t wait until we meet again at Heaven’s Gates. Save a place for us.
