James "Jay" Cullie Hammond

Jay was born February 7, 1941 in Durant, Oklahoma to Buck and Maudie (Miller) Hammond.

He met and married the love of his life, Patricia Gibson on September 12, 1959. Jay retired from the banking industry as the Vice President of Commercial Lending at Prosperity Bank.

He enjoyed many things in his life such as fishing, playing Keno and Texas Hold ‘Em, bird watching, working in his vegetable garden, and watching Thunder Basketball and OU Football. He was an excellent cook and was known for his fish fries, chicken and dumplings, and his Thanksgiving dinners.

Jay had a passion for life and spending time with his family. He was a compassionate husband, father, and grandfather who had a wonderful sense of humor and could always find a reason to smile.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lowell Hammond.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat Hammond; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Randel Cummings; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Tonia Hammond; sister, Gail Burk; grandchildren, Greg and Lanette Cummings, Tammy and Zac Sewell, Logan Fodge, Seth Hammond, and Ryan Cummings; 6 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be 10am Thursday at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
