Ralph M. Persun, Jr., 94, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in Oklahoma City.Ralph was born July 5, 1923 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania to Ralph M. Persun, Sr. and Helen (Hopkins). He served in the United States Army during WWII. A member of the 447th Bombing Crew, on Sept 11, 1944, their B-17 was shot down over Germany. After evading the enemy for many days he was captured and spent 9 months in a German Prisoner Of War camp. Ralph was honorably discharged in 1945. He then returned to Pennsylvania where he worked for Lycoming Aviation as a Lead Engine troubleshooter. He moved to Oklahoma in the early 1960’s and made his home. He worked for Avco and Aerocommander, where he was a First Flight Evaluator. In the 1970’s, he opened Ralph Persun Garage in Bethany, and later moved it to NW Oklahoma City. He specialized in Porsche and Mercedes Benz. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Allen Persun; and son, Hal Persun. He is survived by his children, Kristine Persun of Conifer, CO., William (Bill) Persun of Oklahoma City, Rusty Persun of Edmond, and Julie Walker of Allen, TX.; sister, Norva Hall of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. A private family burial will be held at Ft. Sill National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 2pm, Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
