Ruth Dorthy (Magerus) Thomas was born on May 11, 1923. She was a delightful surprise to her mid-life parents and older brothers and sisters, all of whom pre-deceased her. She married her beloved husband, James W. Thomas “Dub”, for over 54 years. Two sons were born to that union and survive her: James Michael “Mike” and wife, Ann, Houston, Texas and Randall Ray Thomas, Mustang, OK. Her oldest grandson, James “Jim” Thomas, predeceased her in 2011. She is survived by her remaining grandchildren, Kristin Thomas, Houston, TX, Jordan Thomas Houston, TX, Samuel Thomas, Mustang, OK and Sarah Thomas Gore and husband Jonathan, Elk City, OK. Ruth also had two great grandchildren, Jayden Thomas and Henlee Gore.
Ruth Thomas was rarely referred to by anyone, family or friends, as anything but “Nana”. She was a truly amazing, talented woman and the word “remarkable” seems to frequently come to mind when she is remembered. She was an extraordinary seamstress, gardener and cook to only name a few. She was a tireless, hard worker but never was she heard to complain. Her cheerful, loving ways are the hallmark of the humble woman she was. Like a TV chef, she had a magic kitchen with an oven always full of delightful food in ample amounts. Whether one grandchild appeared at her door or one with an entire softball team in tow, there was an abundance of food and love to go around. She liked to “keep my hands busy”. Her quilts, crocheted items and painted crafts were much coveted by all and she generously gave the fruits of her labor. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends but we hold fast to the knowledge she is in heaven awaiting us with open arms as always.
