Sandra was born on August 25, 1947, in Shamrock, Texas, to Marvin Olen Nelson and Sivina Cook Nelson, both of whom preceded her in death. She spent nearly her entire life in the Oklahoma City area, where she built deep roots and lasting relationships within her community.
A graduate of high school, Sandra began her career working as a cashier. Through determination and the guidance of her sister-in-law, Susan, she transitioned into the mortgage industry. Over the years, she became one of the most respected and sought-after mortgage professionals in Oklahoma City, a testament to her strong work ethic, integrity, and care for others.
On March 17, 1977, Sandra married the love of her life, James Elvis Hirom, in Oklahoma City. Their marriage was marked by deep devotion and companionship until James’s passing on February 20, 2019. Though they had no children, Sandra and James shared a full and joyful life together, especially in the company of their beloved pets.
Sandra found happiness in simple, meaningful moments. She loved country music, especially artists like George Jones, Charlie Rich, and Loretta Lynn, and her favorite color was red. She had a warm sense of humor and enjoyed playing games at family gatherings. In her later years, she especially delighted in watching Steve Harvey on television.
More than anything, Sandra loved being with her husband and their pets. Her perfect day was one spent in their company, surrounded by comfort and love. Those who knew her will remember that there was truly nothing she wouldn’t do for her friends and family. She wished to be remembered as a loving and caring spouse, a role she fulfilled wholeheartedly.
Sandra is survived by her brother, Marvin O. Nelson, Jr. and his wife, Edna, of Yukon, Oklahoma; her nephews, Matthew and Micah; and great-nieces and great-nephew, Amy, Summer, and Tyler.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, at Rose Hill Burial Park.
Sandra’s life was defined by love, loyalty, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
