Ursula M. Kennedy died on the morning of August 28th, 2024, at the age of 86. Her passing has left a tremendous void in the hearts and lives of those who loved her. We're truly struggling to imagine a world without her in it.
She was born Ursula Margarete Schupp in 1937 in a small town beneath the ruins of a medieval castle in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. In 1954, she married a young Army sergeant from Oklahoma, Richard William Kennedy, and they were married for 41 years until his death in 1995.
Ursula's husband Richard became disabled early in their marriage, so Ursula found work as a waitress in order to support her husband and children. It was an occupation she would pursue for over fifty years before retiring from Western Sizzlin Steakhouse in her 70s.
Mom loved working at Western Sizzlin and was employed there for some 27 years. Over that time, she made so many lifelong friends from among her customers and coworkers.
Ursula is survived by their three children, Rebecca Wainscott, Heidi-Ann Fourkiller, and Paul Kennedy. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, James Long, Britney Weemes, Ryan Beagles, Richard Kennedy, Lindsay Waldrop, and Shawn Waldrop, and numerous great grandchildren.
Ursula is preceded in death by her brothers Dieter and Manfred Schupp, whom she dearly loved and thought about every day before her death. Ursula is also survived by her beloved brother Klaus, who lives in Wiesbaden, Germany, and her cousin Heidi Griesbach of Stuttgart, Germany, who introduced her to her husband, and her cousin's daughter Alice. Ursula's own mother, Gretchen Margarethe Schupp, died at an early age, a loss that deeply grieved her until the day she died. Her last spoken words heard by her son were the words "mama, mama."
A celebration of life for Ursula will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, 7801 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73132.
