February 1, 1933 - March 08, 2016
After a long illness, Wanda continued her journey to her forever home on March 8, 2016. She was under the care of hospice and her daughter at her Oklahoma City residence of 43 years; just as she always desired.
Wanda was born at home in Niangua, Missouri; to Bettie M. (Jinks) Rader and Simeon M. Rader. (both deceased). Her siblings, sister; Brooksie (Rader) Bowden (deceased); brother, William Harold Rader (killed in WWII) and her surviving sister Gladys E. Ward of Norman, OK.(93 years young.)
Wanda grew up in the small town of Marshfield Missouri and married a local boy, Omer F. Ragsdale at her parents home in 1950. They had one daughter, Deborah. The family made Oklahoma City home in 1955. Wanda was always busy and she did her best at everything she endeavored. Her motto was “do it right or don’t do it at all” or “that’s how the cow ate the cabbage” when she was making a point not to be questioned. Wanda was a wonderful homemaker and a great cook. It was important for her home to welcome everyone. She loved helping others.
Wanda discovered her talent of being a grocery checker and made it her lifelong occupation. She never met a stranger and she enjoyed meeting and greeting all her customers; which came in handy when she married her second husband, W.A. Hercle Stone (deceassed), owner of Stone’s IGA in Oklahoma City in 1970. She loved working at the store and making a home for him with their many four footed pets over the years. She especially loved her kitchen. Lots of wonderful meals and memories were made in that kitchen. Christmas time was her specialty of making the best fudge and candies. So much love was put in everything she made for her family and friends.
Wanda was teaser and loved to make people laugh. She enjoyed bowling, skating with the young people at church; playing cards with friends and loved music. She loved to sing at church services and with the radio; if it was country.
Wanda was into fashion too. She borrowed many of Dolly Pardon’s fashion statements of the 1970’s; like big blond hair, bright colors, jewelry and of course; acrylic nails. In fact, she learned how to do the original acrylic nails and that became here specialty. Everyone was amazed how she could bowl with such long nails and play the organ and even check out groceries.
Family was always important to Wanda; especially the Church family. When Wanda found the Lord; she gave Him her all and helped with anything she was able to do. Wanda was a long time member of the Church of Christ and attended services in the Oklahoma City area. She missed attending services so much in the later years but always read her Bible everyday, prayed earnestly all the time and sang. She was humming to the end. Wanda loved the Lord with all her heart and the church family. Especially, the Putnam City congregation who helped so much in her later years.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Deborah Novey and husband Alan, three grandsons: James Novey, wife Liya and their daughter Kiana; of Honolulu Hawaii, Alan Novey Jr.,wife Angela and their daughter Elliot; of Oklahoma City; and Derrick Novey of Oklahoma City. Wanda is also survived by sister, Gladys(Rader) Ward of Norman, along with many nieces , nephews , great- nieces and nephews with their families celebrate Wanda’s life.
Special thanks to everyone who has helped the family over the long struggle for Wanda. . .especially the Church family, the Alpha Home Health and Hospice; Girling Healthcare, Bill Merritt Funeral Home and too many friends and family to mention.
We Love you all.
Wanda Stone Family…..
Thanks again for all your help...
