

Lloyd D. Shafer, 92, of Binghamton, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the Susquehanna Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Johnson City. Born July 19, 1929 in Monticello, NY, he was a son of the late Arthur L. Shafer and Helena W. (Terwilliger) Shafer Lloyd was a dedicated truck driver his whole life, retiring from Matlack, Inc. in 1987. He was a man of strong faith and was a longtime active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Binghamton. Lloyd and Esther looked forward to their weekly outings with the “Prime Timers” Senior Group from church. Lloyd was a devoted family man and he was happiest when he had his entire family together. He will be sadly missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
Survivors include his children Gary Shafer (Karen), Susan Crawford (Bill), Wesley Shafer (Deb), Brad Shafer (Diane) and Jennifer Shafer. Lloyd is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Esther Eccleston Shafer who passed away April 12, 2018; daughter Bonnie Shafer; Brother Howard Shafer and Sister Rowena Fairchild.
Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 10-11 A.M. at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson. A service to celebrate Lloyd’s life will follow at the funeral home at 11 A.M. with Rev. Robert St. Clair and Rev. Wayne Hokanson officiating. Lloyd will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at Chenango Valley Cemetery.
