

Binghamton: Shirley A. Barnes, 67, of Binghamton, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2012. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Alma McCrady; her sister, Betty; and her brothers, Don and Delbert. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Charles N. Barnes; her children, Jeanette Thomas, Sheila and Dan Stanton, Jenifer and Dan Scales, Chuck Barnes, and Elizabeth and Raymond Holtzman; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; her brothers, Albert and Darryl; and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was a Sunday School teacher at Ogden-Hillcrest United Methodist Church for many years. She was a caring wife, mother and grandmother who loved to cook and sew. She made many quilts and also wedding dresses for her daughters. She never missed a sporting event for her grandchildren. She was a strong woman, keeping the family together with her willingness to listen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012, at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson with Rev. Joyce Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Chenango Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley's memory may be made to The American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org/donate.
