Annie Lee Strickland Cayley passed away September 2, 2022 at the age of 101. Annie Lee was born December 27, 1920 in Reform, Alabama. Annie Lee and her brother, Malney Jr. (Malvin) and parents, Minnie Lee Davis Strickland and Malney Nebraska Strickland moved to Amory, Mississippi where her siblings, Frances Maureen, Jack D, and William V. (Bill) were born. The family eventually settled in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Annie Lee changed her name to Ann when she was older and where she was known while attending Tuscaloosa High School and the University of Alabama. Ann met a tall and handsome Canadian named William Charles Patrick Cayley (Charles) while working at Davis Drug Store in Tuscaloosa, and they were married on June 26, 1941. Ann and Charles became parents to three children, Charlotte Anne Cayley, Judy Catharine Cayley and William Charles Patrick Cayley, Jr. (Charlie), deceased. They moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1965.
Ann loved her Lord, Jesus Christ, and was a faithful Methodist at Avondale United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Ann never met a stranger that she could not talk to as she loved to fellowship with others. Ann loved spending her time with her grandchildren through picking them up after school, teaching them how to sew, knit, cook, going to church and Sunday school, and following the golden rule of treating others as you wish to be treated. She was a gifted seamstress, piano player, loved reading books, completing the weekly crossword puzzles, and loved to watch her favorite show, the Golden Girls. She was the eyes for her late husband when he lost his eyesight through reading and recording his textbooks to attending his Masters in Guidance and Counseling classes in his absence while he was recovering from various eye surgeries. She loved to walk up the steep hills in Avondale Park, where her grandchildren could barely keep up with her pace. She was a very strong and independent women who led by example to her children and grandchildren. Although she is mourned, we find comfort that she lived a beautiful life on earth.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William Charles Patrick, Sr.; her son, William Charles Patrick, Jr.; parents Malney Nebraska and Minnie Lee Davis Strickland; and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte Lee (Roy), Judy Prickett (Mercer), nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews as well as many surviving lifelong friends.
