2020. After graduating first in his class from NYU’s graduate tax law program, Ben practiced
tax and corporate law before specializing in creditors’ rights. In 1996, Ben founded Zarzaur &
Schwartz, PC., which he later grew into a multi-state law firm. While he was highly regarded for
his legal acumen, Ben was also known for his cooking—a skill he honed in the U.S. Army and
in the kitchen of his father’s dinner club, Joe’s Ranch House. His family will try, with mixed
success, to replicate his tenderloin, fried chicken, meatloaf, and Lebanese salad. And his
colleagues at Z&S will fondly remember the famous “snow day” soup he would cook for the
entire firm on snowy and icy days.
Ben was invigorated by his work until his last day. He also loved spending time at the beach
with his wife, Sandra, and at the lake with all of his kids and grandkids. Ben will be
remembered as a trusted advisor, a supportive boss, a wise mentor, a loyal friend, a loving
husband, a caring father, and a doting grandfather. He made a lasting impression on so many
people and he will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Juliette Zarzaur as well as his brother-in-law,
David Wurm.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sandra Zarzaur as well as his five children, Dr. Ben L.
Zarzaur, Jr. (Stephanie), Wendy Z. Johnston (James), Jason P. Zarzaur (Christy), Brent
Yarborough (Whitney) and Brian Yarborough (Christy), his brother, Dr. Joseph A. Zarzaur
(Barbara) and his sister, Judi Z. Wurm; along with 8 grandchildren and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Due to COVID, the family has chosen to have a private viewing, followed by a sociallydistanced
graveside service officiated by Chorbishop Richard D. Saad at Elmwood Cemetery
on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, TN or to the charity
