Betsy Cowan Boggan Bentley, 101, born to Bruce and Martha Cowan on December 7th, 1919 passed away August 31st, 2021 on what would have been her 80th wedding anniversary to Charles J. Boggan. Betsy is preceded in death by Charles, her second husband Howard Bentley, son Bob Boggan, sisters Mary Bailey and Hazel Smith, and brothers Bruce, Byron and Donald Cowan, all three of whom were casualties of WWII. Betsy is survived by sons Joe (Kay), David (Brenda) and Don Boggan, Chris Bentley (Diane), grandchildren Molly Smith (Brent), Chip Boggan, Joe Hedgepeth (Dawn), PK Boggan, Bonnie Peavy, Blair Teel, Chip Bentley (Cheryl), Jim Bentley (April), Casey Bates (Greg), Allison Tremore (Tim), 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Betsy worked for the Jefferson County Department of Revenue for 30 years, retiring in 1978, possibly making her, until her passing, the oldest living retiree from the Jefferson County system. She was an avid reader, gardener, card player and political follower. Visitation Saturday, September 4th 12:00-1:30pm at Johns-Ridout’s Southside.
