

Bryan Foster Helm went home on October 23rd, 2024. He was born in Lexington, KY, on May 12,1951, to the late Thornton Moore Helm and Barbara Smith Helm. He attended Rice University, graduating magna cum laude in 1973 with a BA in Architecture. After working for two years as an architect and city planner in London, England and Doha, Qatar, he attended the University of Virginia, earning an MBA degree with honors in 1977.
He moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1977. For the next twenty years, he worked in the natural gas pipeline industry at Southern Natural Gas Company and Harbart Management Corporation. In 1998, he joined the lay staff at the at the Cathedral Church of the Advent (Episcopal) as Parish Administrator. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham and Mountain Brook Club.
He is survived by two sisters, Courtney Helm Lagrew (the late Michael J.) of Lexington, Kentucky, and Judith Helm Robinson (James H. III) of Chevy Chase, Maryland; a brother, Thornton M. Helm, Jr. (Evelyn) of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; three nieces, Jessica Lagrew Thompson (Lester “Mac”) of Louisville, Kentucky, Whitney Lagrew Walters (Andrew) of Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Rebecca Helm McGuire (Nicholas “Ty”) of Covington, Louisiana; a great-nephew, Graham Bradley Walters and two great-nieces, Lily Jane McGuire and Amelia Rose McGuire. In addition to family, he had a number of close friends of which he was extremely appreciative.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Friday, November 1st at The Cathedral Church of the Advent with reception to follow. Burial will be at The Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky. Memorial contributions may be made to the Human Needs Fund at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, 2017 6th Avenue North, Birmingham, Alabama 35202; to The Jimmie Hale Mission, P.O. Box 10472, Birmingham, Alabama 35202; or to one’s favorite charity.
