Delores Sue Jones nee Douglas was born in Joliet, IL, on October 12, 1951. She went to the Lord on February 28, 2024, in Birmingham, AL, after complications from major surgery. Dee was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Charles Douglas Sr., her mother, Shirley Mae Douglas nee English, and her brother, Stanley Charles Douglas Jr. She is survived by her husband, Roger Parks Jones, her sister, Sherill Lynn Miller, nee Douglas, her children Brian David Nordstrom (Valerie), Justin Michael Nordstrom, and Jerika Lynann Browning (Les) as well as her stepson Brian Douglas Jones (Tessie), eight grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends including Rebecca George. She was a cherished light among her family, her church and her friends.
Dee grew up in New Lenox, IL, relocating to Chicago, South Dakota, Colorado, and Louisiana where she met her husband at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. They wed in Monroe on November 30, 1996. At the university Dee served in several positions, becoming executive assistant to the director of the Center for Business and Economic Research before leaving when her husband, a professor of music, retired in 2003. They moved to Gulf Shores, AL, where they built their retirement home. There they cared for Dee’s mother for 15 years.
Soon after their move, they became members of the loving church family of St. Andrew by the Sea, a community church where Dee joined the chancel choir as well as the hand bell choir. She added her rich, resonant soprano voice as well as well as her devotion and her exhilarating verve to every rehearsal, service and event at the church she loved. Dee is now with that choir beyond our worldly reach, yet the inspiration and force of light and love she displayed will forever be in our hearts.
While in Baldwin County she worked for Prudential Cooper Real Estate and Columbia Southern University before retiring to be with her husband and family.
There will be a celebration of life service at St. Andrew By The Sea, A Community Church 17263 Fort Morgan Road Gulf Shores, AL 36542 on March 16, 2024 at 1:00 PM with a reception to follow at the church.
