George Lewis Bailes III

George Lewis Bailes III (A.K.A. Bubba or Big Big D), 79, of Rainbow City, Alabama died peacefully on Saturday, January 8th, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. George was born August 25, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama.

He was the son of the late George Lewis Bailes, Jr. and the late Rudene Becht Leach Bailes, both from Birmingham, Alabama. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rudene Becht Leach Bailes and brother-in-law, Edward Lyle Cain, Sr.

George is survived by a son, George (Butch) L. Bailes IV and daughter-in-law, Shanna L. Bailes of Gulf Breeze, FL; a daughter, Robin Braswell Bailes of Rainbow City, Alabama; two grandchildren, Winston Alexander (Alex) Bailes and Kelsey Denise Emily Bailes of Gulf Breeze, FL; two step-grandchildren, Kyle Cornette of Ashland, Kentucky and Kaleb Petrella of Louisville, KY; two sisters, Warren Leach Bailes Cain of Birmingham, AL, and Emilu Fox Bailes and her husband, Gerald Robison of Tucker, Ga. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

George was a proud graduate of the University of Alabama; class of 1969. He was a licensed Real Estate Broker in the state of Alabama and held various other sales positions.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Johns-Ridout’s southside chapel with a celebration of George’s life following at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Autism Society of America or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
