Joann F. Bashinsky, 89, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and renowned philanthropist passed January 3, 2021 surrounded by family. Mrs. Bashinsky, known by all as “Mrs. B” and “Mama B”, was a faithful servant of god and proud member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church and the Torchbearers Sunday School Class.

Prior to the death of her late husband, Golden Flake Snack Foods, CEO Sloan Bashinsky, Sr., Mrs. B took his place as chairman of the board for Golden Flake, as well as its parent company SYB, Inc, and charitable foundation, the Bashinsky Foundation, continuing to build upon his solid legacy. After his passing, Mama B focused her limitless energy on her philanthropic endeavors, including contributions and numerous scholarships for students attending Samford University, The University of Alabama, Auburn University, and Miles College. Mama B will be best remembered for the formation of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Big Oak Ranch and her dedication to the children that it helps.

Mama B will forever be remembered by her friends and family for her quick wit, kindness, and loving spirit. She took care of those around her and took her greatest pleasure from helping others succeed. She lived life with an open heart and was sure to let those around her know how she felt about them.

Mrs. B was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 36 years (Sloan Y. Bashinsky, Sr.), parents (Alex and Susie Fulghum), two sisters (Martha Cox and Alexzene Webb), one brother (Lynn Fulghum) and her daughter (Suzanne Bashinsky Ash). She is survived by her grandson Landon E. Ash, and her work family: Melanie Myers, Pauline Thomas, Carol Jones, Patricia Tucker and Brittany Scott.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to John Croyle’s Big Oak Ranch for Boys and Girls.

Hello my name is Sheri Wilson ,
I am mr. Clark caregiver Mr. Hamilton said to me on the First day I met him who are you I immediately said oh Lord I have another wild case on my hand so I left return the next day with open arms he welcome me in to his home we got to know each other and I immediately Came part of his life as a family that’s how Hamilton is open arms not a mean bone in his body every morning at breakfast he use to charge me five dollar’s for three slices of bacon that’s not counting eggs and toast it was a joy coming to work for him every morning because I left with a smile on my face he got to no my family knowing someone such as my client had laughter joy I was so proud of him because he never lost a fight but this battle he lost I We’ll truly miss him.

Mrs. Bashinsky will be greatly missed. Her generous spirit and lovingkindness was a great blessing to many. Sincere condolences to her family. May the peace of the Lord be with you all.
