She was born to Thomas and Audrey Morris on August 12, 1938.
Joy was an artist from a very early age who loved painting and sharing her love of art with others. She taught elementary art and high school art in Franklin, Pennsylvania and later in life taught the residents at The Episcopal Place in Birmingham, Alabama.
Her creativity wasn’t limited to painting, as she loved spending time sewing, making jewelry and cooking for her family. She loved holidays and was known for her Christmas cookies–which many years could feed an army. She was always generous with her cooking and happy to feed the neighborhood children and family friends. She would always set an extra plate at the table for anyone who might be hungry.
Joy had a love affair with trees and nature, which she passed on to her children. She was often found outdoors painting trees, looking at moss or enjoying the beauty of a stream. She was down to earth and more interested in the way a crooked branch grew than the etiquettes of place settings and proper knife, fork or spoon placements.
Joy loved her pets, especially her kitties, which brought her much joy later in her life.
She lived the last 10 years of her life at The Episcopal Place where she found a loving and caring community and friends who enriched her life.
Joy is survived by her sister Karen Kaunch (Jim), her three children: Dan Bianchi (Janet), Nikki Doud (Phil) and Lori Nichols (Ken) and her seven grandchildren Evan and Bryan Bianchi, Kyle and Rachel Doud and Harper, Zoe and Bella Nichols.
A memorial service at The Episcopal Place will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to the Collat Jewish Family Services or The Episcopal Place–two places that meant a great deal to Joy and her family.
