Betts, Thomas Edward, age 69, of Birmingham, Alabama died June 1, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda S. Betts; son, Michael T. Betts (Jeff King); daughter, Debra H. Stewart (Tony); grandchildren, Faith N. Stewart and Savannah H. Stewart; brothers, James Butts (Kathie) and Bruce Butts; brother-in-law, Tony Skaggs (Rosemary); chosen son, Shane Lussier; and chosen daughter, Susi Rodriguez Norman.
He was a United Methodist minister of the North Alabama Conference. He served numerous churches and as a U.S. Navy Chaplain for 27 years. He served during the Iranian Hostage Crisis and Gulf War and countless tours on ships and land, as well as campus ministries and parishes in North Alabama and North Georgia.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Johns-Ridout’s Funeral Parlors, Southside, with a reception to follow. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Johns-Ridout’s Funeral Parlors, Southside. He will be laid to rest at a private service at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
